The results of the preparations were discussed at a forum in Madrid in late April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.europeanbiogas.eu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The European Biogas Association<\/a> presented its vision for the possibility of access of renewable and low-carbon gases to the existing gas infrastructure. We have chosen the key aspects of the EBA presentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>According to the International Energy Agency, the potential for annual biomethane production in Europe is up to 125 billion m3.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-thumbnail\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"500\" src=\"https:\/\/uabio.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Znimok-ekrana-2022-01-29-o-02.10.47-800x500.png\" alt=\"GOs in the EU ETS sectors: examples\" class=\"wp-image-12243\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conditions for potential realization are:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>setting a global European target for renewable gases,<\/li><li>ensuring the possibility of connecting biomethane producers to gas networks,<\/li><li>integration of different sectors of the economy with the energy sector,<\/li><li>ensuring the use of biomethane in transport and for heating in buildings,<\/li><li>use of the circular economy principles and opportunities to reduce CO2 emissions, taking into account the analysis of the full life cycle,<\/li><li>development of the European biomethane market using the guarantees of biomethane origin exchange.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The implementation of the &#8220;gas package&#8221; will require a revision of the <em>European Gas Directive<\/em>, as well as the <em>RED II Directive<\/em>.
