On February 16, experts of the Bioenergy Association of Ukraine (UABIO) and the Renewable Energy Agency (REA)<\/a> Oleksandra Tryboi and Semen Drahniev presented AgroBioHeat and CERESiS projects of the EU Horizon 2020 Programme at the 12th international exhibition “AgroSpring. Grain Tech\u00a0Expo 2022”<\/a> in Kyiv.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

350 companies from 13 countries took part in the exhibition. Given the specifics of grain technologies, the exhibition presented a variety of technical solutions for elevators, including heat generators and grain dryers on biomass:\u00a0AlvanBlanch<\/a>,\u00a0KMZ\u00a0Industries<\/a>, ZEE GmbH (Zero Emission Energy)<\/a>, Agroservice-SV LTD<\/a>, Berdyanskie zhatki PJSC<\/a>, GRECO GROUP<\/a>, DUNAYEVETSK FOUNDRY AND MECHANICAL PLANT<\/a>, ECO-PROTECH GmbH<\/a>, Agro-Industrial Technology Plant LLC<\/a>, GRAIN INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGIES LLC<\/a>, Kyiv Elevator Equipment Plant LTD<\/a>,\u00a0NEW\u00a0ELEVATOR<\/a>, SOKOL LTD<\/a> and TEFF LLC<\/a>. In addition, equipment for biomass harvesting and processing into fuel briquettes and pellets was presented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due to the significant increase in prices for traditional energy sources, the energy use of agrobiomass is now very relevant. Especially if agricultural producers implement such systems on the basis of available own resources of agrobiomass. Straw, stalks, husks, grain waste, and other types of agricultural waste can be burned in boilers and heat generators to produce heat, which helps reduce the cost value of agricultural products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is a lot of information on the resources of the AgroBioHeat<\/a> project on how to do it correctly and usefully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main goal of the AgroBioHeat<\/a> project is to support the widespread implementation of advanced and commercially ready solutions for heating systems running on agrobiomass in Europe. During the meetings with stakeholders, UABIO experts discussed the peculiarities of implementing agrobiomass heating systems for production and storage facilities, educational institutions, and other social infrastructure. Within the framework of the AgroBioHeat project, a National Strategic Plan for the Development of Agrobiomass Heating has been developed for Ukraine. The implementation of this plan will help strengthen the energy security of local communities and diversify heat supply in rural areas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another interesting project within this topic \u2013 is the CERESiS project. It is a study of long-term prospects for sustainable development of bioenergy, including the production of liquid biofuels for transport without indirect land-use change (ILUC), ie without competition for food or feed crops. CERESiS engages scientists, industry representatives, organizations, institutes, and small or medium-sized businesses to work together to overcome the risk of indirect land-use change (ILUC) in biofuel production, as well as the fact that large areas of contaminated land remain unused. The project aims to provide a reliable sustainable solution to both problems by promoting the purification of contaminated lands through phytoremediation, ie the cultivation of energy crops to obtain clean biofuels. Ukraine is studying the cultivation of plants such as Miscanthus and Ocheretianka common for phytoremediation of lands contaminated with pesticides and fuels, followed by the use of biomass for biofuel production by optimizing two technologies (supercritical water gasification and rapid pyrolysis), combined with new technologies of pollutants separations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
