{"id":13251,"date":"2022-07-06T15:51:23","date_gmt":"2022-07-06T12:51:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uabio.org\/?p=13251"},"modified":"2022-07-08T17:32:46","modified_gmt":"2022-07-08T14:32:46","slug":"vyrobnytstvo-biopropanu-bio-lpg-ta-neobhidnist-dyversyfikatsiyi-syrovyny","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uabio.org\/en\/materials\/13251\/","title":{"rendered":"Bio-LPG production and diversify raw materials necessity"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>We offer an overview of the issues related to the search for optimal raw materials for the production of bio-LPG. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bio-LPG remains hamstrung by:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>a lack of available feedstock,<\/li><li>higher costs of renewable feedstocks compared with oil.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/uabio.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Bio-LPG-cylinders-1280x720-1.jpg\" alt=\"\u0412\u0438\u0440\u043e\u0431\u043d\u0438\u0446\u0442\u0432\u043e \u0431\u0456\u043e\u043f\u0440\u043e\u043f\u0430\u043d\u0443 bio-LPG\" class=\"wp-image-13252\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/uabio.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Bio-LPG-cylinders-1280x720-1.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/uabio.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Bio-LPG-cylinders-1280x720-1-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why did these problems arise?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Initially, potential bio-LPG producers planned to use palm oil and soya oil, but the changes in the EU legislation led to a ban on the use of feedstock for the production of biofuels in competition with the food chain. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The need to diversify feedstocks and biofuels output is crucial for overcoming this barriers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Experience <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Italy&#8217;s company Eni, for example, plans to invest in expanding product offerings at two of its hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) biofuel plants in Venice and Sicily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Gela plant in Sicily will add sustainable aviation fuel to its list of products \u2014 biodiesel, renewable naphtha and bio-LPG \u2014 from 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Production capacity at the Venice plant, which also uses some oil feedstock, is to expand to 560,000 t\/yr, herewith:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>from 360,000 t\/yr \u2014 420,000 t\/yr will be produced biodiesel, <\/li><li>with the 140,000 t\/yr will be produced other products including bio-LPG.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Eni is growing castor beans across thousands of hectares in Tunisia to produce castor, or ricin, oil, as it is not used for cooking. The advantages of the raw materials include not needing a lot of water to grow and high productivity (we can make 4-5 t\/yr per hectare).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company is considering using residues from olive oil and other agricultural production in order to expand the range of raw materials. At the same time, there is a need to expand the biomass treatment unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u041e\u0441\u043a\u0456\u043b\u044c\u043a\u0438
