Led by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.europeanbiogas.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>European Biogas Association<\/strong><\/a>, this initiative <strong>emphasises biomethane\u2019s essential role in achieving Europe\u2019s climate neutrality objectives while ensuring the continent\u2019s global competitiveness.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To unlock the full potential of biomethane, the Declaration outlines <strong>key actions<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Establish Long-Term Targets and Supportive Frameworks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enable Market-Driven Solutions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensure Political and Institutional Support.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, the<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/commission.europa.eu\/topics\/eu-competitiveness\/clean-industrial-deal_en\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/commission.europa.eu\/topics\/eu-competitiveness\/clean-industrial-deal_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Clean Industrial Deal <\/a><\/strong>strategy was launched, outlining the European Commission\u2019s plan to address industry competitiveness concerns and economic resilience while <strong>still aspiring to reach EU decarbonisation targets.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the strategy<strong> sets no clear pathway for the role of European-produced biomethane<\/strong> and seems to concentrate on electrification, favouring less competitive low-carbon gases.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>On 26 February 2025,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biomethaverse.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BIOMETHAVERSE<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/hyfuelup.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HyFuelUp<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/metharen.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">METHAREN<\/a>, <\/strong>and<strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sempre-bio.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SEMPRE-BIO<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>presented their second joint report on policy and market recommendations to deploy biomethane production in the European Union<em>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The report analyses the gap between countries\u2019 targets and their biomethane production potential. The evaluation originates from the European Commission\u2019s assessment of EU Member States\u2019 updated National Energy and Climate Plans (NECPs) under the REPowerEU scheme. <strong>These plans forecast biogas and biomethane production to reach 30-32 billion cubic metres (bcm) by 2030.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The first Spanish <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/newsletters\/biocircular-summit-7287032516257943552\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BioCircular SUMMIT<\/a> took place in Madrid.<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/hyfuelup.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>HyFuelUp<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0was one of the 20 European projects presenting a poster with its most recent advances in the area dedicated to innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">News from Ukraine<\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"596\" src=\"https:\/\/uabio.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Znimok-ekrana-2024-03-26-o-17.14.37.png\" alt=\"BIOMETHAVERSE: \u0414\u0440\u0443\u0433\u0438\u0439 \u0431\u044e\u043b\u0435\u0442\u0435\u043d\u044c \u043f\u0440\u043e\u0454\u043a\u0442\u0443\" class=\"wp-image-15911\" style=\"width:400px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong><strong>Ukrainian biomethane hits the gas grid and export market<\/strong>! <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vitagro.com.ua\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/vitagro.com.ua\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>The VITAGRO group of companies<\/strong><\/a> was the first one constructed a biomethane plant with<strong> 3 mcm <\/strong>of annual capacity at the end of 2023. Connection to the GDS took place <strong>in October 2024<\/strong>. Currently, the company pumps <strong>about 6,000 m3 of biomethane per day<\/strong>. Feedstock for biomethane production is mainly livestock waste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The second entity starting biomethane pumping into the GDS is <a href=\"https:\/\/gals-agro.com\/en\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/gals-agro.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Hals Agro<\/strong><\/a> company. It has also<strong> 3 mcm<\/strong> of biomethane of annual capacity, and the current injection volume is 2,000-3,000 m3 per day. The company commissioned the biomethane plant on the basis of its own biogas plant <strong>in spring 2023<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Ukraine is one of the project\u2019s strategic partners and a demonstration site. The importance of replacing natural gas and production of renewable gases, primarily biomethane, increased with the russian invasion of Ukraine. As a result, on February 2, 2023, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed in Kyiv between the European Union and Ukraine on strategic partnership regarding biomethane, hydrogen and other synthetic gases. This partnership should focus on the green transition and decarbonisation of energy sectors. In particular, it should facilitate the production, trade, transportation, storage and use of biomethane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project involves the company&nbsp;<strong>MHP Eco Energy<\/strong>, on the basis of which research will be conducted, as well as the team of the&nbsp;<strong>Bioenergy Association of Ukraine<\/strong>, whose experts will accompany the project. The biogas plant of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/mhp.com.ua\/en\/eko-enerdzi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MHP Eco Energy<\/a>&nbsp;has an installed electrical capacity of 12 MW, produces biogas from 330 t\/d of chicken manure and other agricultural waste, producing 85,000,000 kWh of electricity per year.
