The plant operates on purchased raw materials, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>liquid livestock waste (slurry);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>solid waste (straw after cattle bedding, almond processing waste, clean straw);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>slaughterhouse waste after preliminary pasteurization at 72\u00b0C for 1 hour.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Nature Energy owns <strong>15<\/strong> similar plants in Denmark and produces <strong>up to 40%<\/strong> <strong>of the country&#8217;s biomethane<\/strong>. It was recently bought by the oil and gas company <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shell.com\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.shell.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Shell<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Storde Biogas <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-2 \/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The second visit on <strong>June 18<\/strong> took place at the biomethane plant <strong>Storde Biogas<\/strong>, which produces up to <strong>1000 m3 <\/strong>of biomethane per hour (about<strong> 8.5 million m3\/year<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The main raw material of the plant:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>cattle manure;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>cattle bedding with straw;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>grass;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>straw pellets imported from Poland.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The owners partially supply manure from their two farms, but additionally buy it from 23 other farms at a price of <strong>1 Euro\/m3 <\/strong>(transportation costs are also included). <strong>The plant uses an amine biogas upgrading system from <a href=\"https:\/\/ammongas.europeanenergy.com\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/ammongas.europeanenergy.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ammongas<\/a>, a UABIO member company.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Blaabjerg Biogas <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-3 \/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>On June 19<\/strong>, the delegation visited the <strong>Blaabjerg Biogas <\/strong>biomethane plant with a capacity of <strong>9 million m3\/year.<\/strong> The plant has been operating since <strong>1997<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Feedstock:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>75%<\/strong> is slurry (mainly cattle) with a dry matter content of 7.5%;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>25%<\/strong> \u2014 industrial waste, including slaughterhouse waste, which is pasteurized at 72\u00b0C for an hour. The feedstock is sourced from 35 farms within a 20 km radius.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The plant has <strong>an amine biogas upgrading system<\/strong>. The facility is also equipped with industrial-type reactors with a single vertical stirrer in the center. The temperature in the reactors is <strong>52\u00b0C<\/strong>. Electricity is supplied from the grid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lisbjerg cogeneration power plant<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-4 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1920\" data-id=\"18046\" src=\"https:\/\/uabio.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/tmp_3353f43b-ab8e-4a46-a13a-fc70204fb06f-scaled.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18046\" srcset=\"https:\/\/uabio.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/tmp_3353f43b-ab8e-4a46-a13a-fc70204fb06f-scaled.jpeg 2560w, https:\/\/uabio.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/tmp_3353f43b-ab8e-4a46-a13a-fc70204fb06f-768x576.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/uabio.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/tmp_3353f43b-ab8e-4a46-a13a-fc70204fb06f-1536x1152.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/uabio.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/tmp_3353f43b-ab8e-4a46-a13a-fc70204fb06f-2048x1536.jpeg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2560px) 100vw, 2560px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" data-id=\"18047\" src=\"https:\/\/uabio.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/tmp_ab41c8c0-f198-4cc5-8013-211b43cba80a.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18047\" srcset=\"https:\/\/uabio.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/tmp_ab41c8c0-f198-4cc5-8013-211b43cba80a.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/uabio.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/tmp_ab41c8c0-f198-4cc5-8013-211b43cba80a-768x576.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The second trip of the delegation on<strong> June 19 <\/strong>was to <strong>the Lisbjerg Cogeneration Power Plant<\/strong> (Aarhus CHP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has <strong>4 boilers<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>one straw-fired boiler with a capacity of <strong>35 MW of electricity<\/strong> and <strong>78 MW of heat<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>three boilers fired by unsorted household waste of <strong>25 MW<\/strong> each.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The delegation got a detailed look at the straw-fired boiler, which produces steam with a pressure of <strong>110 bar <\/strong>and a temperature of <strong>570\u00b0C<\/strong>. The straw is brought in bales weighing <strong>500 kg<\/strong> (12 bales are unloaded atomically at a time). Humidity is up to <strong>25%<\/strong>. The boiler from the Danish company <strong>Burneister and Wain<\/strong> can run on 100% straw or mix up to 50% wood chips. The heat, especially in summer, is supplied to the district heating system of Aarhus.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/uabio.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/tmp_7d428340-2d70-479b-8316-81aa856dacf6.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18049\" style=\"width:860px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/uabio.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/tmp_7d428340-2d70-479b-8316-81aa856dacf6.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/uabio.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/tmp_7d428340-2d70-479b-8316-81aa856dacf6-768x576.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>This visit is extremely valuable for Ukraine in the context of developing and scaling up its own bioenergy plants<\/strong>.
