In March,\u00a0Eurostat<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0published updated data on\u00a0green electricity production<\/strong>\u00a0in the European Union. The statistics highlight the EU\u2019s progress in generating electricity from renewable sources and which countries are leading the way.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2025, 47.3% of the electricity generated in the\u00a0EU\u00a0came from\u00a0renewable energy sources.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Distribution by country<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Among EU countries, the highest shares of electricity from renewable sources were generated in Denmark<\/strong> (92.4%, mostly wind), Austria<\/strong> (83.1%, mostly hydro) and Portugal<\/strong> (82.9%, mostly hydro and wind).<\/p>\n\n\n

In contrast, the lowest shares were recorded in\u00a0Malta<\/strong>\u00a0(16.2%),\u00a0Czechia<\/strong>\u00a0(16.6%) and\u00a0Slovakia<\/strong>\u00a0(17.8%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
