For the SAF platform<\/strong><\/a>, we have prepared a short material based on new data provided by Eurostat<\/strong><\/a><\/em> on green electricity production<\/strong><\/a> and renewable energy consumption<\/strong><\/a> in the European Union. The statistics show the EU’s progress in electricity production from renewable sources and which countries are the most successful.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2024, 46.9% of net electricity generated in the EU came from renewable energy sources.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Among EU countries, Denmark<\/strong> had the highest share of renewables in its net electricity generation with 88.4%<\/strong>, coming mostly from wind, followed by Portugal<\/strong> (87.5%, mostly wind and hydro) and Croatia<\/strong> (73.7%, mostly hydro).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lowest shares of renewables were recorded in Luxembourg (5.1%), Malta (15.1%) and Czechia (15.9%).<\/p>\n\n\n

Wind and hydro power<\/strong>\u00a0accounted for more than two-thirds of the total electricity generated from renewable sources (39.1% and 29.9% respectively). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The remaining one-third of electricity came from\u00a0solar<\/strong>\u00a0(22.4%),\u00a0combustible fuels<\/strong>\u00a0(8.1%) and only around 0.5% from\u00a0geothermal energy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
