Germany is one of the leaders in the bioenergy market. Now we want to talk about Statkraft company, which operates two powerful biomass cogeneration plants in Germany: in Emden and in Landesbergen.

Technology and raw materials

“Green” energy is produced by thermal processing of wood waste — such biomass is a CO2-neutral fuel. Emissions from combustion are cleaned and subject to strict control. As in Emden and Landesbergen, wood biomass is delivered not only by road but also by water. To do this, Statkraft leases the port.

Central heating in Emden

  • The electrical power output is 20 MW.
  • The power plant generates renewable electricity equivalent to the consumption of approximately 40,000 households.
  • In addition, the plant supplies the Volkswagen industrial site in Emden with 30 MW district heating through a 2.5-kilometer pipeline. This increases the efficiency of the biomass plant to approximately 65 per cent.

Energy for 50,000 households annually in Landesbergen

  • The electrical power output is 20 MW.
  • The biomass power plant generates renewable electricity equivalent to the consumption of approximately 50,000 households.
