Lyst UABIO 555

The Bioenergy Association of Ukraine (UABIO) has appealed to the National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission (NEURC) to assist in paying for supplied electricity from biomass and biogas to producers! At least at the level of production costs — 84%.

Why 84%?

  • Due to rising raw material prices, the average cost of 1 kWh of electricity produced from biomass over the past two months is 8% higher than the established “green” tariff.
  • Russia’s attack has caused shortages and significant increases in the cost of consumables, spare parts, and components for landfill gas and biomass plants.

These two factors led to an increase in the cost of electricity produced from biogas to a critical 84%.

Why is it important to support electricity producers from biomass and biogas?

Production of electricity from biomass and biogas even in martial law:

  • is a stable and predictable source of electricity production,
  • provides for a high level of employment per unit of installed capacity, in particular from the related forest and agricultural sectors,
  • determines the use of local raw materials,
  • continues to provide taxes to local and state budgets.

We remind you that in wartime, almost all plants continuously produce more than 2.3 million kWh of electricity from biomass and biogas daily.

The position of the UABIO is prepared, discussed, and agreed upon by the members of the UABIO, which produce more than 50% of all energy from biomass and biogas in Ukraine.
