On July 23, Georgiі Geletukha, Chairman of the Board of the Bioenergy Association of Ukraine (UABIO), and Oleh Prysiazhniuk, Director of the Institute of Bioenergy Crops and Sugar Beet National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine, signed an Agreement on Scientific and Technical Cooperation and the Organization of Mutual Relations.

This strategic document formalizes the partnership between the professional association and the leading research institution through December 31, 2030.

Oleksandr Hanzhenko, head of the Department of Breeding and Sustainable Technologies for Growing and Processing Bioenergy Crops at the Institute, also took part in the working meeting.

The main goal of this collaboration is to accelerate the development of scientific and technical support for the bioenergy sector, to efficiently process biomass for energy purposes, and to implement modern technological and scientific solutions in the industry.

Key areas and forms of collaboration

Under the agreement, large-scale joint efforts are planned in several key areas:

  • Research and development. Conducting joint theoretical and experimental research, as well as carrying out scientific research and development work (both on own initiative and on behalf of third parties), and exchanging information regarding the results of own research;
  • Legislative and analytical activities. Drafting, providing expert support for, and advocating for regulatory acts, strategies, government programs, technical regulations, and standards in the field of bioenergy. This also includes preparing proposals for government agencies aimed at improving public policy and legislation;
  • Expert activities. Involving specialists from both organizations in the work of advisory and consultative bodies, commissions, and working groups. Organizing professional development programs for researchers and faculty members;
  • Scientific publications and events. Joint organization of conferences, seminars, roundtables, and exhibition and demonstration events, as well as the preparation and publication of monographs, textbooks, manuals, and scientific articles;
  • Innovation and international projects. Exchange of scientific and methodological materials and specialized literature; submission of joint patent applications for developments in Ukraine and abroad; and active collaboration on international projects.

Why is this partnership important, and what will it bring to the industry?

The combination of the scientific capabilities of the Institute of Bioenergy Crops and Sugar Beet National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine and the practical experience and expertise of UABIO creates a powerful synergistic effect for Ukraine’s entire bioenergy sector.

Bringing science and business closer together will enable the faster adoption of modern agricultural technologies in production — from optimizing crop cultivation to highly efficient processing of bio-based raw materials. This is particularly relevant today, as issues of energy independence, decarbonization, and the development of distributed generation are critical to the country’s sustainability.

Joint advocacy and the development of high-quality legislation will help foster a transparent and favorable investment climate in the bioenergy sector. Overall, this partnership lays a solid foundation for building a sustainable and competitive energy system in Ukraine.

The Bioenergy Association of Ukraine sincerely thanks the staff of the Institute of Bioenergy Crops and Sugar Beet National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine, and specifically Director Oleh Prysiazhniuk, for their openness to dialogue, their proactive stance, and their willingness to join forces for the joint development of the domestic bioenergy sector!
