Welcome to the UABIO team new member — JSC ‘Energy Company of Ukraine’!

We are delighted to welcome the national distributed generation operator and one of the leaders in the Ukrainian electricity market — JSC ‘Energy Company of Ukraine’ (ECU) — to the community of the Bioenergy Association of Ukraine. We are proud that the Bioenergy Association of Ukraine is expanding and bringing together an ever-growing number of companies that are developing the country’s energy market. We are convinced that ECU’s membership will strengthen cooperation between participants in the bioenergy market and contribute to the development of modern generation models within Ukraine’s energy market.

JSC ‘Energy Company of Ukraine’ (ECU) is a 100% state-owned energy company and the national operator of distributed generation. The company supplies electricity to the country’s strategic enterprises and facilitates the integration of new generating capacity into the Ukrainian electricity market.

ECU manages a portfolio of electricity supplies for leading Ukrainian companies, both state-owned and privately owned. To ensure the stable operation of its customers in the face of power shortages, ECU has import contracts for the supply of electricity from Europe.

Welcome to the UABIO team new member — JSC ‘Energy Company of Ukraine’!

ECU’s main areas of activity are the supply and trading of electricity, forecasting, balancing, aggregation and commercial dispatch of generation facilities. The company works with various types of generation assets, including combined heat and power plants, biogas and biomass power stations, solar and wind power generation, as well as energy storage systems.

For electricity generators, ECU provides a full range of market services: imbalance management, participation in aggregated and balancing groups, generation forecasting, commercial dispatch and optimisation of operations in the electricity market. This helps to improve the economic efficiency of generation assets and reduce the risks associated with operating in a competitive electricity market.

ECU’s market infrastructure comprises aggregated groups in 19 regions of Ukraine, its own control centre, one of the largest balancing groups on the market, and subsidiaries in Slovakia and Moldova, which provide access to the markets of Central and Eastern Europe.

Through centralised trading, dispatch and imbalance management, producers can operate in a competitive market and maximise their profits without having to set up their own trading infrastructure.

At the Bioenergy Association of Ukraine, we see significant potential for cooperation with the ECU in the development of biogas and biomass projects, their market integration and the enhancement of the economic efficiency of bioenergy as one of the key areas of Ukraine’s energy transition.

We recommend visiting the ECU website to learn more about the company.
