New brochure by UABIO on biomethane production in Ukraine

We are sharing a new important development by the UABIO team in collaboration with our German colleagues, which could become a practical tool for investors, project developers, politicians and anyone interested in the development of renewable energy in Ukraine.
The purpose is to present a comprehensive vision of the potential for biomethane production in Ukraine — from raw materials and technologies to economic prospects and export opportunities.
Download the brochure ‘Biomethane production in Ukraine: opportunities and challenges’ (in Ukrainian only)
The brochure was prepared by: Georgii Geletukha, Yurii Matveev, Petro Kucheruk, Semen Drahniev, Volodymyr Kramar, Anna Pastukh.
Key findings of the brochure
The production and use of biomethane significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions, as it is produced from various organic raw materials: agricultural residues, solid household and food waste, and wastewater. Biomethane production transforms waste into a valuable energy resource, improving waste management.
Ukraine has significant potential to become an important exporter of biomethane to the EU
Biomethane production creates a unique opportunity to launch a new transparent, innovative, export-oriented sector of the economy with the potential to produce up to 20 billion m³ of biomethane per year, generate up to €9 billion in export revenue by exporting half of the product, and create up to 250,000 new jobs.
The potential for biomethane production in Ukraine is at least 21.8 billion nm³ CH₄ per year
The sustainability of biomethane production is a key factor for integrating Ukrainian biomethane into the European market. Meeting these requirements guarantees a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and avoids negative impacts on the environment.
Ukraine has wide opportunities for using biomethane due to its extensive gas network system
Ukraine has all the conditions to become a key exporter of biomethane to the EU, which will contribute to strengthening energy security and achieving decarbonisation goals in Europe, while providing significant economic benefits for the country.
