The Grynerga heat recovery technology and EBARA heat pumps are quickly gaining traction in the EU market
Thus, Grynerga’s innovations increase the efficiency of energy modernization. Because heat recovery significantly improves the effectiveness of installations
We have great news from Volodymyr Maistyshyn, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of UABIO and partner of the Finnish company “Energy Case” in Ukraine.
The Lithuanian company Grynerga has successfully completed the installation of a 19.5 MW (thermal power) Ebara absorption heat pump and a 2nd-stage 8.5 MW condensing economizer in Kaunas, Lithuania.
This modernization of thermal power plants with biomass in combination with the already installed condensation economizer allows to increase heat production by 28% with the same fuel consumption.
About the technology
The effectiveness of the condensing economizer is influenced by the temperature of the coolant that will be heated by the flue gases from the boiler. Therefore, the lower the temperature, the higher its efficiency. In Ukraine, today, a relatively small number of condensing economizers have been installed, moreover their effectiveness is limited because they heat the return coolant of heat networks.
What is more interesting for Ukraine is the Grynerga`s decision of cooling the return coolant to lower temperatures with a heat pump in order to achieve the maximum selection of the latent heat of water vapor in flue gases.
In Lithuania, there are almost no industrial boilers left that are not equipped with a condensing economizer. However, Lithuanians are advancing further in improving heat production efficiency, as their heat energy market requires the installation of second-stage condensing economizers. Taking into account the fact that there are a small number of such first-stage units operating in Ukraine, it would be prudent to install second-stage condensing economizers with a heat pump right from the start.
