Main points of a joint German-Ukrainian webinar
Yesterday, on 4 December 2024, the German Biogas Association (GBA) and the Bioenergy Association of Ukraine (UABIO) held a webinar on the topic “Biogas and Biomethane Market in Ukraine“.
The event was held as part of the Chamber and Association Membership Project to demonstrate the real benefits of business development in the biogas sector, which contributes to sustainable environmental development and climate protection in Ukraine.
We thank more than 50 participants, including representatives of Ukrainian and international businesses, industry experts, investors and other stakeholders.
Key topics
- Current state of the biogas industry in Ukraine and prospects for its development;
- Export of biomethane to the EU: challenges and opportunities;
- Legislative initiatives to support the industry;
- Successful cases of biomethane projects in Ukraine;
- UABIO’s role in the development of the biogas and biomethane market in Ukraine.
The Bioenergy Association of Ukraine was represented at the event by:
Georgiy Geletukha, Head of the Board, with a presentation on the Biogas and biomethane Market in Ukraine.
- Individual biomethane/biogas projects in Ukraine ranged from 125 kWe to 26 MWe installed capacity.
- The first biomethane project was constructed in April 2023 on the basis of an existing biogas plant.
- Power production from biogas is growing even during the war!
- Ukraine has the largest area of agricultural land in Europe, and, accordingly, one of the best agricultural raw material potentials for biomethane production in the world.
- The possibility of exporting biomethane to the premium EU market, which has adoptedambitious plans for the production of biomethane (REPowerEU): 35 billion m3/year in 2030. Ukraine can potentially provide up to 20% of this need.
- Seven biomethane projects are planned for launch in Ukraine in 2024.
