For the Bioenergy Association of Ukraine, May 2025 was filled not only with interesting offline events in Ukraine. Over the past two weeks, UABIO has joined important and large-scale events in Belgium and Hungary.

The Bioenergy Association of Ukraine was represented at both events by legal expert Anna Pastukh. In addition, the MHP Eco Energy team took part in a seminar in Brussels. In particular, Oleksandr Dombrovskyi, President of the company and UABIO Board member, made a presentation

We are pleased to share a short summary of these conferences, which demonstrate the important role of UABIO in the development of both the domestic and international bioenergy sector.

Biogas summit in Budapest

On May 23, 2025, the Budapest Biogas Summit brought together more than 100 companies from 18 countries at the modern MOL campus in Budapest. The event, organized by White Paper Consulting, highlighted the growing momentum of biogas and biomethane development in Central and Eastern Europe.

Hungary is taking bold steps — the government announced a new €99 million support scheme to triple its biogas production by 2030. The main goal is to reach 600 million cubic meters per year, of which 184 million cubic meters will be upgraded to biomethane.

UABIO was represented by Anna Pastukh, who presented on “Status of the biogas sector in Ukraine”, — emphasizing Ukraine’s growing export capacity and regulatory progress.

The summit addressed key topics: grid injection, financial incentives, EU legislation, and cross-border collaboration — all crucial for scaling up the biomethane market.

As a result of the conference, it is clear that Central and Eastern Europe is ready to become a biomethane powerhouse. We are convinced that Ukraine has a strategic role to play in this transition.

Biomethaverse project workshop in Brussels

On May 14, 2025, our representatives participated in the Biomethaverse Workshop in Brussels, which brought together leading experts and stakeholders to discuss the development of biomethane and the E-methane Planning Decision Guide.

UABIO is proud to have contributed to the key discussions on:

  • Replicability and scalability of biomethane projects.
  • Innovations in bio-methanation technologies, including demo site insights.
  • Technical, market, and social considerations in e-methane development.

Special recognition to Oleksandr Dombrovskyi and MHP Eco Energy for presenting Ukraine’s achievements and challenges in biomethane innovation.

It’s crucial for Ukraine to stay connected to EU-level dialogues — especially now, as we discuss biomethane development in Ukraine and explore its export potential.

The Bioenergy Association of Ukraine is committed to work together with partners to build a sustainable and energy secure future. We believe that it is necessary to make biomethane and bioenergy in general a pillar of the European and Ukrainian green transition.

We would like to remind you that last week UABIO Chairman of the Board Georgii Geletukha represented the Association at two important events in Kyiv: Bioenergy and agro-processing — UABIO at the conference by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine! and ‘The role of bioenergy in the country’s reconstruction: UABIO at the conference on renewable energy’.

We also invite you to join a large-scale international event on biomethane with the participation of a number of experts, which will take place on June 12 in Kyiv in offline and online formats. All the necessary information is available here: https://uabio.org/en/events/17770/.
