During European Biomethane Week, the European Biogas Association (EBA) launched a video campaign about the people behind each stage of the biogas value chain: from organic waste processing to supplying renewable energy to homes and businesses.

At the heart of this story is a symbolic key: a powerful emblem of the vast, yet still untapped, potential of biogases to build a more competitive and sustainable Europe. By joining EBA, we invite you to explore the meaning behind it: a history of cooperation, innovation, and transformation.

In the video, representatives of a number of European companies and authorities handed each other a symbolic key that unlocks the potential of biogas in Europe:

Germany

“We are dairy farmers who collaborate with other farmers to produce biogas from manure. We use it to produce clean bio-LNG, which we use to fuel our equipment. In addition, we obtain high-quality digestate, which we can use as fertilizer for our fields. Biogas is an advantage for the region and surrounding communities”, — Zeller.

Italy

“We produce biomethane from organic and “green” waste collected in 49 local municipalities. We use liquefied biomethane to fuel our garbage trucks. This creates an excellent circular system”, — Contarina S.p.A.

Spain

“Our goal is to provide the best service for the utilization of livestock waste and by-products of the agri-food industry. We also strive to create new jobs and establish sales channels for agricultural products. All this is done during the production of biomethane at our plant. Its capacity is 320 cubic meters per hour, which is equivalent to the annual consumption of 4,000 households”, — E-cogeneration Cabanillas.

Denmark

“Our country aims to consume 100% “green” gas by 2030. This means that it will be produced locally by individual biogas plants and fed into the gas transmission system for consumption not only throughout Denmark, but also in Europe as a whole”, — Energinet.

Netherlands

“We have been producing steel using fossil fuels for many years. However, we now want to switch to carbon-neutral fuels and achieve zero CO2 emissions. We will do this by replacing natural gas with hydrogen and biomethane. We believe that biomethane can make an important contribution to the decarbonization of metallurgy”, — TATA steel Nederland.

France

“Our municipal authorities strive to support all industry participants and communicate with local residents in order to create projects that everyone can be proud of”, the mayor of the municipality of Réau.

Biogas is not only a renewable energy source, but also a strategic pillar for building a sustainable and stable future for Europe. Every molecule brings us closer to energy independence and an environmentally friendly future, while connecting producers through existing gas networks helps to decarbonize the energy system.
