Biomethane: investments and exports — Forbes conference
On October 24, 2025, Kyiv hosted the annual Energy Business Forum on energy development for leading industry players, investors, and regulators.
The key topics of this year’s Forbes forum were: business readiness for the winter of 2025–2026 and the resilience of new players, as well as the sustainability of modern business models. In addition, one of the event’s panels was focused on biomethane (in particular, its export to the EU) and green energy.

During the discussion panel “Biomethane exports. How to become indispensable to the EU“, moderated by UABIO Chairman Georgii Geletukha, representatives of the Association’s member companies made a speech:
- Sergiy Savchuk, Director of Development and Investments at Vitagro;
- Adomas Audickas, Deputy CEO of MHP Group responsible for bioenergy development, Director of MHP Verdant;
- Serhii Kravchuk, CEO of Gals Agro agricultural holding.

Main topics of discussion
After presenting their projects and development plans, the speakers moved on to the main topic—biomethane in Ukraine. In particular, the experts discussed the economic arguments in favor of investing in biomethane.
The speakers also shared their views on the existing barriers that limit biomethane exports to the EU and possible solutions that could change the situation. They talked about the markets they are targeting and provided advice to new investors interested in biomethane production in Ukraine.

“The biomethane sector in Ukraine is constantly progressing — we currently have five biomethane plants in operation. Biomethane is ready to be fed into the gas grid today and is the cheapest of all possible renewable gases. Ukraine has one of the world’s best agricultural raw material potentials for biomethane production. The potential for biogas/biomethane production in Ukraine is 21.8 billion m3 per year. Interesting for investors: the most expensive biomethane is obtained from manure and agricultural animal waste, as it significantly reduces CO2 emissions”, said Georgiі Geletukha, Chairman of the Board of UABIO.
“Biomethane is not just about energy, it is about a new economy for the agricultural sector. Ukraine has the potential to become a strategic supplier of green energy to Europe if it can unite producers, investors, and the state around common rules. The greatest resource is not only biomass, but also trust and partnership between Ukrainian businesses and European consumers”, said Sergiy Savchuk, Director of Development and Investment at Vitagro and member of the UABIO board.
We would like to thank Forbes for organizing this high-level event and discussion on biomethane. We are delighted to see growing interest in the biomethane sector from businesses, investors, and the media. Special thanks to all the speakers and participants for their professional presentations, sharing of experience, and constructive ideas.
We are confident that such meetings help strengthen cooperation between the state, business, and experts and will contribute to the further development of the biomethane market in Ukraine.
