About the project
The technology is being developed as part of the BIOMETHAVERSE project, which forms part of the EU’s flagship research and innovation programme, Horizon Europe.
The main aim is to expand the range of biomethane production technologies in Europe, make the process more cost-effective, and support the adoption of innovative methods for producing biomethane.
MHP ECO ENERGY, with the support of UABIO and its German partners Deutsches Biomasseforschungszentrum (DBFZ) and Ellmann Engineering), has developed a pilot biological methanation plant.
This facility was handed over to Ukrainian Milk Company LLC for industrial testing in early 2025.
About the technology
The technology is based on combining the CO₂ contained in biogas with renewable hydrogen to increase the output of biomethane.
Industrial testing of the pilot plant by staff at the biogas complex of Ukrainian Milk Company LLC has demonstrated the high efficiency of the innovative technology and confirmed the results of laboratory studies.
The technology developed is at TRL 6-7, meaning it is ready for large-scale demonstration.
The winners were selected by the Board of Global 100 RE Ukraine, which consists of representatives of green energy associations, including the Bioenergy Association of Ukraine. The best projects in each category were selected, and all teams involved in their implementation will receive awards. The 100 gREen AWARD-2025 recognise those who are truly changing Ukraine’s energy sector
