Development of the biomethane market in Ukraine and harmonisation of legislation with EU law — a new UABIO project
We are launching a new project with the support of the Climate and Energy Response Facility (CERF)! This is an important step for the development of the biomethane market in Ukraine and the harmonisation of our legislation with EU law.
The project is implemented by the Bioenergy Association of Ukraine (UABIO). Our team provides expert, analytical and legislative support to state authorities in the process of implementing key EU acts in the field of renewable gases.

What does the project involve?
- Preparation of amendments to legislation in accordance with Directive (EU) 2024/1788 and RED II / RED III requirements;
- Development of mechanisms to support biomethane — creation of incentive models and analysis of European practices;
- Organisation of dialogue between the government, business and international partners.
Particular attention is paid to creating conditions for the production of biomethane from waste and residues, developing a system of guarantees of origin, and ensuring the possibility of certified exports to the EU.
The project, supported by the Climate and Energy Response Facility (CERF), lays the foundation for integrating the Ukrainian biomethane market into the European market, opens up export opportunities, enhances the investment attractiveness of the industry, and provides transparent rules for producers. Ahead lies systematic work and real change for the sector!
