Bioenergy has grown by 26% in 2020 and replaces 5.2 billion m3 of natural gas / year
The State Statistics Service of Ukraine has officially published the Energy Balance of Ukraine for 2020 (express issue).
We are fixing an important trend — the development of the bioenergy sector of Ukraine continues. In the structure of renewable energy production in 2020, the largest share was occupied by biofuels and waste — 75.4%, as in previous years. The volume of production of biofuels and waste increased by 17% and amounted to 4438 ktoe in 2020 (against 3786 ktoe in 2019).
The total supply of primary energy from biofuels and waste increased by 26% and amounted to 4241 ktoe in 2020 (against 3349 ktoe in 2019).
Supply of primary energy from biofuels and waste in the amount of 4241 ktoe in 2020 is equivalent to the replacement of about 5.2 billion m3 of natural gas.
Exports of biofuels amounted to 424 ktoe in 2020 (in 2019 — 442 ktoe).
In the structure of electricity production from RES in 2020, the share of biofuels was 4.3%, while in 2019 it was 3.1%.
In general, the share of renewable energy sources (RES) in the total supply of primary energy in 2020 was 6.6% (in 2019 it was 4.9%).
