The National Energy and Climate Plan of Ukraine for the period up to 2030 has been approved
On June 25, 2024, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved a strategic document, aimed at coordination environmental, energy, and economic policies for the sustainable development of Ukraine.
The development of the National Plan was carried out in accordance with the requirements of EU Regulation 2018/1999 and taking into account the best practices from EU member states.
Main purposes
- a 65% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to 1990 levels;
- an achievement of a 27% share of renewable energy sources in the total final energy consumption:
- 25% — in electricity;
- 35% — in the heat,
- 14% — in transport.
- the diversification of sources and supply chains for energy resources — no more than 30% from a single supplier;
- the primary energy consumption no more than 72,224 million toe, final consumption — 42,168 million toe (toe — tonne of oil equivalent).
Important
The National Plan is an important part of the European integration process and aligns with Ukraine’s commitments to reduce CO2 emissions, taking into account the Energy Community legislation and requirements of #UkraineFacility.
The document was developed with the participation of different civil society institutions and other steakholders.
Decarbonization of the economy will help attract foreign investments — according to the Government’s estimates, we need approximately $41.5 billion.
Diversification of energy sources is one of the key elements of energy security.
Currently, we are witnessing a global transformation of Ukrainian energy system. The UABIO team is actively involved in these processes. We are grateful to all government representatives and members of the public bodies who are working together to advance important initiatives.
Let’s make energy green together!
