Today, the National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Public Utilities, approved the resolution “On Amendments to the Code of the Gas Transportation System and the Code of Gas Distribution Systems.”

Problem

The current version of the Code of the Gas Transportation System (hereinafter referred to as the GTS Code), and the Code of Gas Distribution Systems (hereinafter referred to as the GDS Code) established requirements for the mole fraction of oxygen in natural gas (and biomethane) supplied to the GTS or GDS at a level of no more than 0.02%.

This norm was an insurmountable barrier for potential biomethane plants that are able to provide this indicator at the level of 0.2 – 1%.

Decision

Today’s decision of the National Regulator established requirements for the mole fraction of oxygen in natural gas (and biomethane) supplied to the GTS at a level of no more than 0.2%, and to the GDS at a level of no more than 1%. The decision enters into force the day after the official publication of it.

Potential investors in biomethane production have been waiting for this decision for about a year. We sincerely thank the National Regulator for this decision, as well as the Ministry of Energy, the GTS Operator of Ukraine, and LLC “Gas supply company “Naftogaz of Ukraine” for the initiative and support of this issue!

The sector of biomethane producers will thank for this decision the biomethane produced and supplied to the GTS and GDS!
